The latest crop of El Cheapo DVD's hit the local (Wichita, KS)
Wal-Mart recently, and this flick was among them, so I decided to
plunk down a dollar and check this out.
This was apparently a 1995 Direct-To-Video offering aimed primarily
at kids. Lots of silly situations (that I didn't find all that
funny) and a threadbare plot about three scientists being regressed
to six year olds and having to get the antidote from rival
scientists who want the original formula in exchange. It seems the
scientists kept their adult minds, but without the antidote they
will remain in their grade school bodies for the rest of their
lives.
I knew this was a make-a-quick-buck piece of schlock when the star
of the piece was listed as "Art Johnson" on the back and "Artie
Johnson" on the front. Once the film started rolling, I saw the
familiar name of "Arte Johnson"in the credits. Arte Johnson was a
versatile comedian whose star rose very high in the 60's thanks to
a TV show called "Laugh-in". (Does the line, "Vaireeee
eeenteresteeng!" ring a bell?) The fact that the marketers couldn't
get the spelling of Johnson's name right on the packaging -- and
altho his role is minor, he's the closest thing to a "name star"
this turkey has -- shows how little they cared about the product.

FX for the transformation are fairly well done and shown on-screen
(one of the guys even stands in front of a mirror and watches
himself transform). Some funny scenes, but no great plot to write
home about here.
