A boy keeps getting transfered to an alternate universe where he is mistaken for someone named "Alice". He eventually ends up looking like a girl. (posibly a transformation)

I finally have the book in my hands. The author is Tamayo Kobayashi. The name is "fushigi no kuni no shoNEN arisu" (not "shojo arisu"), which can be translated "Boy Alice in Wonderland".

Here's a quick synopsism since the original is a bit garbled: Alice is a boy living in Tokyo (They found a Japanese equivalent, so it's not exactly a girl's name). A bus drops him off in Wonderland, where he meets a guy dressed up as a white rabbit. The "rabbit" asks him his name, and he says "Alice." So the rabbit thinks he Alice from "Alice in Wonderland," who's engaged to the knave of hearts. From there it gets really surreal...

The knave of hearts tries to marry him, and of course Alice runs away. Then he meets the real Alice who's in hiding. The knave chases them, and somewhere along the way, the boy Alice is turned into a girl by the white rabbit guy. Although even before then, Alice is drawn in a more & more androgynous way. There's also this whole odd thing going on where Alice may be starting to fall in love with the knave (but maybe not).

I enjoyed the book, but it's so surreal, I'd only recommend it for people who can handle a plot that makes very little sense.

I saw a mention of this on a Japanese site. (FWIW, that guy gave it an A+).

Here's the publication info: Full name of the comic is "fushigi no kuni no shoujo arisu" (Alice of the mysterious country). the author is Kobayashi (I can't read her first name). Published in '93. 2 volumes. (or, the TS is vls. 1 & 2--from the format of that page, it's hard to tell) publusher is shogakan-wings comics
