I read well in advance that this episode was coming and waited
literally months to see it, thinking perhaps that this time, Sam
would really change into someone.
....Surely he wouldn't just end up dressing in drag for the whole
episode. That would look ridiculous. He did, and it did. By the
way, this woman was no gargantuan. How is Sam supposed to even FIT
into her clothes? Bottom line: FI, CD. No TG.

Well... yes, this was Sam's first leap into a woman.... except, of
course, that he doesn't actually BECOME the people he leaps into.
He wasn't the blind guy; he wasn't the chimpanzee; he wasn't Lee
Harvey Oswald (although he thought he was); and he wasn't a
woman... ever.
So, in this episode, he's Sam Beckett, a man in a bathtub, a man in
a towel, a man in a dress wearing makeup, a man wearing high
heels... a man.
No TG at all. I always thought the whole series would have been
better if Sam DID really become those people. But then Scott Bakula
would have had nothing to do.
Still, the ending of this episode, and what Sam really had to do to
leap out, was great. And what does he announce right before he
takes care of business? "I'm a man."

The show all us TG fans were waiting for when the show started!
Al reacting to Sam was the best of the show, especially Al's
justifcation to why he was turned on to Sam. A must see episode!

The first of the female characters Sam jumps into, and the best
handled. In subsequent episodes Al saw him as Sam, but here Sam was
the beautiful blonde.
A few really great scenes including the iniial
bathroom-wiping-the-mirror-wow-look-I'm-a-woman. Made even better
with Al urging Sam to lower the towel.
As with most of "Quantum Leap" the shots where a reflection is show
come out terribly well. This includes Sam putting on make up (the
femal actress is
better shown) and the final scene where he/she attempts to deal
with his boss.
The female leaps are based around the problems of the characters.
However, this one is based around the problems of a male-to-female
character.

QL was a very irratiting show from time to time.The producer took
the easy way out & kept changing the rules. In the first 2 years it
WAS a body switch! David B said in an interview that since the
total matter/ engergy of the universe is a constant ( which is the
latest theory, I am a physical scientist) Sam could not leap in his
own body back into time. But they found this too restrictive for
political correctness or for ease of writing. So they changed it.
But think about it logically. Everything in the universe has to
change, clothes sizes, doorways, mass just so Becket can be seen as
another person, or Sam is in their body? Also, as has been noticed
the show would have been much better if we would never have seen
Sam at all except maybe for a transplanted transluscent image going
into different bodies & have AL the only constant on the show.
Stockwell is a better actor anyway. Some of the fan fiction like
the really good cross over one with X-files ther is no bones about
it. Sam & Scully have switched bodies. He has her height & lack of
strength,

eric's quite right, (as always :)
As I Understand it, AL (and the audience) see Sam AS Sam because of
the neural link Sam and AL have. That is how Al can connect with
Sam thru time. Sam see's himself as the person he possesses. The
possessed person is clearly shown inthe future in Sam's body on
numerous occasions in the waiting room. Apparently then, they swap
bodies, but some portion of the body's aura also is swapped, thus
the confusion.
That is how sam in a pregnant body experiences the pregnancy, he IS
in the body, but his aura - which Al can see keeps him from fully
taking over. It is also how Al and we can see people react to the
new body, yet look at Sam in the eye even when he is in a smaller
body, and it is also how sam could walk in a body with a leg
amputation... his aura enabled him to walk since it was there even
if the leg wasn't.
(Of course it is all fiction anyway, and we suspend our normal
perceptions while viewing; so forget the implausibility of it all,
and just enjoy the wonderful stories they told!)
