Arthur: The Quest for Excalibur
Gender, Animal | |
Early in the game, Merlin gives the player character, Arthur, the ability to change into five different animal forms; the owl, the eel, the badger, the turtle, and the salamander. Each of these forms are necessary to solve the game's puzzles.

Downloaded this from the net and played it up to this point. Nudd
is quite definitely male since he is referred to in the masculine
gender numerous times.
When you first encounter him in his hall, he is disguised as a
beautiful maiden with long, red hair who smiles at you demurely.
There is an accompanying graphic but it's fairly primitive by
today's standards.
Basically, "she" says that if you free her she will stay by your
side forever and you'll always be together. "She" will even flirt
with you a little depending on what you say to "her" (try asking
the girl about herself or about the king).
When you first look at her, her image "shimmers" a bit cluing you
in that she is not what she appears to be and her appearance is
more of an illusion than a physical change of form and if you try
to kiss her, she will allow you to do so but before your lips meet
you will notice that she has sharp pointy teeth behind that
provocative smile.
Interestingly enough, if you keep your promise and free her before
she drops her disguise, Nudd will keep his as well (although
bargaining with a demon is like bargaining with a Djinn so while he
may adhere to the exact wording, the result may not be what you
were expecting!)
It's a fun game for its time...although all of the
animal-shapeshifting does become tiresome after awhile.
