Mutiple Authors net fiction New Worlds Awaiting
Furry | |
This is a group of stories about a world turned on its head by the rays of a supernova. Everyone with a furry persona has woken up to find that they are that character and everyone else without one is gone. All the furries try to deal with the current situation and figure out what to do next. Som ...more |

Sadly, along with all the humans, this website appears to have died
as well - no new updates in over 5 years. And you have to wonder
about a title page with so many typos on it. You would think the
author might have taken some time to go back and fix them. I guess
that just makes it feel more like a MUCK.
But it's a cute, if hastily created, story world. I'm glad to be
counted among those who will survive the supernova :)

I'd almost hate to think what I'd be if I survived that
supernova... too many things floatin around in my head... I end up
some type of freak. :-P

A freak? Sort of like a platypus, I'd imagine.

"Where does a platypus learn a word like hodgepodge?"
I agree it is sad to see a dead site like that. Same goes for the
Transformation Story Archive. I remember when they actually had
updates and new stories added.
New Worlds Awaiting could do with some sprusing up. Maybe update
the background to something cooler, fix the typos, add a header,
and promote more, and the site could come alive again.
But I think they are pretty practical when it comes to what would
happen if only furries were left.
They make sure to shut down anything that could explode if left
alone (nuclear power plants, chemical plants, etc.)
Try to contact anyone that they know would of survived.
Let any animals (animal-animals) out of their homes so that they
don't starve.
They plan on moving to some place warmer, so they don't have to be
in trouble durring the winter. (No one to run the power plants = no
power = no heater system)
Wal*Mart, Sam's and other stores make great places to find
supplies.
But you would think more people would be left. I believe while most
people might not be openly pleased with the thought of identifing
themsleves as an animal, they might secretly like the idea of being
a cat-person or a fox or horse or dragon or whatever.
Oh and my favorite story is MythicFox's Story... that is actually
what inspired me to become a kitsune.

I think the whole thing is a downright embarrassing exercise in
wish-fulfilling wankery. All of the mean, nasty normals go away,
leaving a population that is probably overinflated and definitely
ludicrously idealized. Going door to door to let pets out and
turning off things that 'could explode if left alone' is cloyingly
naive hand-waving at best. The odds of enough 'survivors' having
the technical skills to shut everything like that down, being close
enough to reach them, or even bothering in the face of what amounts
to an extinction event are very, very low. Really, the world's
architect would have been futher ahead just claiming that the
magical supernova turned fossil fuels and fissiles into inert
bolognium, given that it's already wrought other equally absurd
transmutations.

...lighten up dude.
It's just a story. You might as well be agruing the logic behind
'Cat in the Hat'

I don't know. The Cat in the Hat probably has more literary merit
and internal logic.

Well, I applaud the author(s) for attempting to address some of
these issues in the first-place. Lest they be loose-ends hanging.

Bieeanda, sometimes you just have to toss logic to the wind if you
want to explore. Even Shakespeare knew "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are
dreamt of in your philosophy."
If solid reality is what you are seeking, I dare say you will find
little of it here :)

Heck... I find little reality in the real world.

Have you taken your medication today cj? Do they have you on the
blue pills or the red now? :)
Kitsune, if you want to get something new started along these lines
I'd be only too happy to contribute some web space for it.

Nahh... Not right now. One day maybe. Actually, you know what?
Yeah, I think I will do it, we just need some premise to base it
all off of and then get the word out to all the web authors out
there.

I took the purple pill and the little yellow pill... no my tummy
doesn't ache anymore. :-P

The trigger event:
Natural changes in the earth's climate coupled with global warming
cause the polar ice to melt. The increased fresh water melt causes
the interruption in flow of the great oceanic conveyor-belt. The
interruption cause the global temperature to drop, devistating
agricultural production in the northern hemisphere, and forcing man
to adapt to his changing world.
Then the catastrophe hits! Yellowstone's super-volcano erupts in
it's most violent activity ever, causing major seismic events, and
other volcanic events all around the globe... not to mention the
resulting tsunamis. The volcanic ash causes another major drop in
global temperatures. The seismic, tsunami and some volcanic
activity cause destruction of major energy and chemical facilities.
Some of this damage involves nuclear power generation and nuclear &
chemical and biological weapon storage facilities - resulting in
the release of radioactivity and toxic and/or lethal chemical &
biological agents. Perhaps damaging some research institutions too
- institutions that are working on medicine, genetics, biotech,
nanotech, and robotics.
Mix appropriately and you have some weird stuff that's going to be
happening... and a planet that might just be rocked back into the
stone-age.
