This has been on my mind for quite some time, but I've been getting
curious:
So my favorite aspect of TG/TF (shapeshift, possession, body
swap.... all of that), in fact, the aspect that tends to turn me
on, is juxtaposition. The mismatch of body and
soul/voice/personality etc. So for each TG/TF there are several
ways I can enjoy it--I focus on the body on the outside, the
appearance of the character, or the actor, that is now displaying
the mannerism of another character. I think of that other character
(the soul on the inside), now wearing the skin of another
character, speaking with their voice, moving in their body,
sometimes even putting on a (usually bad) impression of their
mannerisms. I watch the interaction between characters, the way the
actors have to all interact in a completely different way because
they are now playing different characters. Sometimes, even voice
swap, voice change or accent change are enough to get me turned on.
It seems I am a considerably rare breed in this community, because
as far as I'm aware, many people are here for the body exploration,
for the onscreen transformation, for the navigation of gender
identities. But for me, it is all about character, behavior, and
performance. I like to first watch the characters in their usual
environment, get to know how they normally act and their
relationships with each other. Then the transformation/swap
happens, and then suddenly everyone's changed. It is crucial for me
that the actors sell the change, that I can really believe this is
another character transformed into or stuck in this body. The more
nuanced the performances the better I can savor it. That's why, to
use a recent example, It's What's Inside is one of my favorite TG
media, while I almost never watch TG porn (over the top, caricature
performance, very little display of character).
So... yeah. I'm wondering if anyone here also gets this? Is anyone
here like me? (also let's share our favorite TG/TF media too :D)

Oh, and I know I said nuanced, but really this is nothing emotional
or analytical. In fact most of the time it's the contrast that
instantly gets me. It really is just about how well the actors
imitate another actor's character. Even Power Rangers could do that
more or less.

Oh yeah, same here, like don't get me wrong having a character
explore their body is cool and all, but I love seeing someone act
wildly different than their traditional self.
Its why the jamie lee curtis freaky friday movie is one of my all
time favorites
