Description
I came across this by accident and bought it not really knowing
what I was getting into. The only thing I had to go on was the fact
that on the back, it gets praised by the master horror writer, H.P.
Lovecraft. While it was never as creepy as Lovercraft's work, it
was very good. The book Ancient Sorceries and other Weird Tales
has a small collection of Blackwood's stories, but what will be
interesting to our group would be Ancient Sorceries
, for which the anthology is named. I won't bother with spoiler
text, because, if you pay any attention at all to what you're
reading, you'll figure out what's going on right away. A shy man traveling through France decides that he can't take the
crowded train anymore and decides to get off at a small town. The
town has a dark secret though and at night, all the people turn
into cats. It's much creepier than I can make it sound just by
explaining it, so you'll have to read it to really appreciate it.
