Description
Wotan, Dr. Fate's old foe, started out life as a cave woman in
approximately the fiftieth millennium B.C. who was exiled from her
tribe and who received instruction in black magic from a witch. She
later went on to change bodies and to be reborn many times over. He
(she?) has recently reformed and is now taking instruction from a
servant of God himself!
First Appearance: More Fun Comics #55 (May 1940)
History:
Taking his (or her, because Wotan has been both male and female)
name from the Norse god, Wotan is a millennia-old sorcerer who has
battled Nabu/Doctor Fate in several eras. He has also encountered
the Spectre, the Shining Knight, Zatanna, the JSA, and the JLA,
Wotan's main goal was to conquer the world, utilising both sorcery
and advanced technology to achieve it. Following a clash with
Doctor Fate III (Linda Strauss), Wotan saw the light of God and
reformed. He currently lives in a monastery.
