What's the latest on FM? How close is it to being up?

Yeh, an ETA would be real nice. How long has the site actually been
down for now?

I heard it was up for a few minutes a couple of days ago, though I
didn't see it. Talia was probably doing some fine tuning of the
software. I expect to see it up any day now.
Mr. Ram, (Who is not a member of the FM task force and has no first
hand knowledge, I'm just an interested reader).

Man, when that site comes back online, there's gonna be so much
traffic that it'll be knocked right off again, let alone everyone
getting on at the same time.

Technically speaking, July 14th, 2012 qualifies as "any day now".

I guess they're like me. I work on my website about once a month,
tops, and any problems often knock me into next month. If I were
running a popular fiction site I'd get some help... hmm, I'm
thinking of launching something that may turn out to be highly
popular in the open source software world. Maybe I should enlist
some webby help before I start. Then again, maybe it'll go nowhere.

you read FM in class? There is a reason that I don't bring my
laptop to class, but that has never crossed my mind

Vicky Tern, an FM Task force member, posted this at the TG-Fiction
Yahoo group...
The Task Force is continuing with its Plan A, which will return FM
to its familiar format and features (though it should be much more
accessible). But Plan A needs to survive some imponderables, such
as getting a crashed server across a national border to its
formal owner, said owner then finding ways to extract programs from
it.
If this proves hopeless there's a plan B for giving everyone
another sort of access
to FM's huge story archive -- which is intact and safe -- but
that's less
desirable.
So the Task Force wants first to give Plan A every advantage --
thus the
delay. I regret it as much as any, being as hooked as any.
Though on the "Task Force", but not being a computer geek I can
only guess at specific technical difficulties, or nod when told of
them, and hope they're overcome soon..
Money isn't now a primary or crucial issue -- Glamour Boutique thus
far has
been incredibly cooperative as a "sponsor" -- though it's true
individual
Task Force members including FM's Founder Mindy are ready to lay
out time,
cash, expertise, and patience as needed, and have done some of just
that or more.

Forgive me if I sound rude, but what about this Plan B is so
distasteful that the good people over at FM are willing to
hemorrhage interest, readers and possibly writers by having the
site down even longer than it's already been? If there's a way to
get FM back sooner, I say damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

This doesn't sound like its a matter of just "few days" before FM
is up and running.... what a realistic timeframe?

I agree with the "plan b" assessment. I never found FM's interface
to be all that good. I can't imagine that plan b could be that much
worse.
I'm not buying the "money is not an issue" suggestion, either. If a
real company had this happen to their website and didn't have a
resolution within 1/2 hour they would pay the $$ to bring in the
pro's.
Not trying to demean the efforts, just looking at things from a
different angle.

Like I said, There ain't jack we can do about it. The way they
handle their problems is their own, no matter how dumb they may
sound to us.
