Looks like a whole lot of people owe the folks at FM an apology.

I'm sorry I didn't make more jokes when I had the chance?

"Looks like a whole lot of people owe the folks at FM an apology."
I don't see why; many of the complaints were about it taking so
long to get the site back up, not that it wasn't coming back at
all. Six months is a ridiculous amount of time to get a site back
in working order, I don't care if they had to salvage the server
from the depths of Atlantis. Also, the problems with converting the
code taking as long as they did make absolutely no sense. Most
programmers could have reworked the code in a week at the most.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but expecting everyone to say "all is
forgiven" just for finally getting around to doing something that
shouldn't have taken more than a month or two is a little much.

Post #503, I agree with you. Pick your favorite TV show, if it went
down for six months, would you feel apologetic for complaining,
just because it came back six months later? I apologize to people
when I mistreat them in some fashion. Does not apply in this
instance.

Favorite TV show? Like Heroes? It was down for a season because of
the writer's strike, I didn't see the amount of whining that I saw
over Fictionmania!

Yes, ok, they could have done it alot quicker as #503 stated. But
these guys probably arent prgrammers by trade (correct me if im
wrong). Therefore, they have lives to live and other things to do.
I doubt this was at the forefront of their mind all of the time.

AFAIK, the fictionmaina task force works for free. we should count
it as a blessing that the site was ever up at all, and should be
incredibly thankful that they have sought fit to invest the time to
fix it. That being said, i'm *psyched* that it's back!!!

Maybe the answer here is to change the name of the "Fictionmania
Task Force" to the "Fictionmania Hobbyist Club"

Mr. Ram, maybe you have a point. Perhaps Metamorphose could draw
more traffic if it became the center for people like me who want a
venue to complain about all sorts of perceived societal problems.
How about starting a new thread centered on..."Why should the men
be expected to lower the toilet seat, but women are not expected to
raise it?" I, for one, have strong feelings about that. And, I
think everyone's about tired of talking about FM.

before.

I'm sure there will be hardware failure, customs issue, illness,
business trip and natural disaster that prevent the site from being
functional on June 1st.
Yes, it's true that some people are complaining about not being
able to access a free "service" that nobody is entitled to. That
however does not mean the complaints are without foundation.

The folks at FM don't owe you anything, never have never will.
There is no contract saying FM must always exist. What there is, is
human decency something I, being just a series of tubes will never
have. Perhaps some of you overreacted a bit with the whole "FM is
never coming back! It's been gone for soooo long!" A simple, "I'm
sorry we doubted you task force, thanks for providing us with this
wonderful FREE service that we understand took a lot of your free
time as you all have real lives outside of FM."
No one is saying "OH YOU DICKS GOT IT NOW! SHOWS YOU FOR DOUBTING!"
It's more of a "Hey, we were kinda rude about not being patient..."
"But it was six months!" I hear you cry. You're right, it was. So
what? So you could do it better? Why didn't you? Nothing was
stopping you from networking and collecting the stories, or
creating a new FM, one that wasn't just a clone site that had most
of the stories.
I reiterate, no one is making you say anything, I'm just pointing
out that perhaps some of us, MYSELF included were impatient and
went, well that's the end of one of my favorite sites, how could
those fuckers do that? And really, it doesn't matter because the
site didn't exist for any ONE person it existed for everyone and
anyone who wanted to use it, and because there were problems
instead of all of us waiting patiently for CONCRETE answers we went
"Bullshit, this is taking to long."
So, I'd formally like to apologize to the FM team. Great job guys
and I know it's not 100% yet but thanks for your work and thanks
for sticking through this even though it probably would have been a
lot easier to just scrap it.

The task force might work for free and volunteer their team for the
good of everyone, but that doesn't mean they did a good job.

Whether or not they did a good job is irrelevant they were donating
their time to get the server fixed. They DO NOT own FM. They have
NO obligations.
Be thankful at least FM is coming back. Be glad they decided to
reopen FM at all. Had I been running the show and read all these
posts criticizing the taskforce I'd have pulled the plug said screw
you and deleted the whole archive of stories.

Six months server out of order?
Professional?? Probably not.
Hey you get what you pay for.
If they required subscription fees and billed our accounts monthly
it would all be a different story.
I'm sure there was quite a bit of effort and inconvenience to keep
it all running. But I can't imagine the "Task Force" is doing this
for any reason other than a labour of love.
Volunteers are entitled to a certain amount of patience.
Who is ready to take the responsibility and build and run a site
that could overtake the famous Fictionmania legacy? If somebody can
do a better job. . . . Everybody would probably welcome new blood.

From: guest

I agree with 518 for the most part.
But...
Where the Task Force lost my support was when they refused any
assistance that the community offered.

From: guest

Actually, it was Mindy who came and fixed the site.
The TaskForce didn't do much.
You should say thanks to Mindy, otherwise the site would probably
be still down.
