Fictionmania's been down for OVER A YEAR. I got fed up with it and
made my own TF/TG site. You can check it out at this link:
http://tf-media.net/
What makes this different from FM? I'm going to be actively
developing it, adding new features all the time. Plus, it looks WAY
better.
If you are an author, or you know of one, please let them know
about this brand new site so we can start bringing in content as
soon as possible.

I don't think it's been a year yet.

It's been 6 months.
Looks like a good first effort "TFGuy" - using Drupal?
You may wish to actually sign up for a perm ID on this site. At the
very least it will let you embed proper links.

Nice site but for those of us who visit at work that banner isn't
the best idea. lol I liked Fictionamia's plain look because it was
very discreet.

I was the stupid plonker who started this thread.
I've recently started to delve into the mysteries of FictionMirror.
What a nice, clean, functional app.
NamelessFairy is a Prince/ess among men.
Fictionmania is dead wood. All the d*ckheads running it, with the
exception of Nameless Fairy, have shown themselves to be more
interested in politics than the wider TG community. While you still
can, please retire gracefully.

@K: Why would you visit a site like FM at work, of all places?
Maybe I'll create a minimalist theme for the site for people like
you who want to be "discrete".

@TFGuy: Visited the site -- not too bad for a beta test. Just
remember K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid), and maybe get a few
more stories on there, and you might have something rockin'. Oh,
and some kind of picture captions might get you more hits.

@K It seems a bad idea to me to visit sites like that at work if
the company you work for monitors your computer (and a lot do) you
could end up in trouble or even fired

Chalkerfan: FM ran like its packets were carried to your computer
by squirrels. The search engine was nowhere near equipped to deal
with the traffic it had or the volume it searched. If a search
returned more than a certain number of results, there was no way to
search the undisplayed stories. You could only search the
description and title, not the stories themselves.
What I'm hoping will happen is that the fmstories server will
remain operational while new sites offering decent search functions
spring up.

You're right. You're 100% right.
But does any existing site have better search/traffic handling
capabilities?
The closest I've seen is Crystal's site but the search options
aren't up to FM's.

TFGuy, will your site allow non-English stories?
|
From: guest (TFGuy)

@Forestier Never really thought about it to be honest. What would
be cool is if you could post a story in another language, and then
my system could automatically convert it to another language.
So for now, I'm going to say yes. Feel free to post stories in
other languages. I'll see if I can get some kind of translation
system up.

Automatically translate? Not to be negative, but do you have any
idea how badly mangled just about anything turns out that way?
BTW, is "tramsformation media" on purpose or a typo?

You know, FM had stories in other languages: French, German,
Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and they needed not be translated.
People read these languages, you know.
And I wouldn't want my stories to be "system translated". That's
BS.

To TF-Guy: You know, I preferred the categories of FictionMania. My
stories are Sci-Fi of Medieval Times, and there is no way to
indicate that. I don't understand what the TF degree and TF detail
are. FM categories were quite clear, I think.

A Message from Mindy, the founder of Fictionmania, as posted at
Storysite---
Mr Ram
The code has been completely overhauled to work on the new server.
It will still look the same as before for now. I finished the last
major rewrite this last Monday night. Still some minor things to
clean up and fix. But nothing major. I am not part of the task
force, just overhauled the code for them. I would expect some sort
of announcement about going live again shortly after they test it
out and re-arrange a few things. But again that is the task force's
call not mine

Careful, that message was an unregistered name. Anybody can post
that and there is no way to prove it was actually Mindy.

Piper at Storysite traced the IP address and it was a Reno, Nevada
address, so it was likely really Mindy Rich, or it was an
improbably elaborate hoax.
