I hope Fictionmania returns. We have heard promises for 6 months...
many times promising they are close.

For authors looking for copies of their stories for which they no
longer have the original, there was a mirror for their stories
available at Fictionmirror. There are no ads at the site as it is a
simple mirror: http://fictionmirror.dnsalias.net/
It's a basic mirror, so if you don't know how author or subject
tags work for the stories, you might type in some semi-random story
name just to get some results of stories with tags. Then use the
example of tags to input your author name and retrieve copies of
your stories.

The fictionmirror site is down

the mirror is up again
It's not too reliable it tends to go down quite a bit.
If it is down you can still read some of the stories by typing
site:fictionmirror.dnsalias.net/stories
in google and then clicking the Cached
link at the bottom of each search result

FM Update, Sunday, March 29.
-------------
Contrary to what the pessimists and nay sayers have to say,
progress is being
made with the coding that makes fm so unique. The search functions,
so important
to most readers, has been a large hurdle but is now working.
Let us not forget that we are rewriting software that functioned on
an Apple
server so that it will function on a PC based server. It has been
much more
complicated than originally estimated. However, progress has been
made and we
are close to finishing.
Last week, I predicted that it will be only a matter of days till
fm is back up
and running. Then, the search functions took about a week to
rewrite and debug.
They are working now. A few more, far less complicated rewrites, to
go.
When you are debugging software, it is very difficult to predict
just how long
it will take to get everything working.
A few more days........

What's a little longer I've already waited quite a while :)
I'm optimistic fm will be back soon

I appreciate the effort to have an integrated search function, but
to be honest, I always thought that the search function at
fictionmania was quite poor. You should be able to type in a word
or phrase and find that word or phrase anywhere on the site.
That was never an option on the old site. I was told it was because
of the old server. I hope that has been corrected now that the site
is moving to a new server.

Yes a new search function would definitely be awesome

If there are problems with useful but not vital bits like the
search functions, would it perhaps be better to make the site live
without them and then add them when they're ready?

While that might be nice, people will still complain when it goes
down for maintainence. Personally, id rather it be finished to its
possible best and then realeased.

Another FM Update, March 31
-------------
It appears as if the last fm server glitches are being taken care
of. Mindy is
an expert on webdna and is helping Talea with that software
problem. Webdna was
the operating software that gave fm the look and feel that made it
so popular.
It is very user friendly to the readers, but, much less so to the
programmers
setting up the software.
Until we can get the fictionmania.com url switched to the new
server, we will be
using www.fictionmania.tv as an internet address. When the old
address is
switched over, both addresses will work.
Thank you for your support. It is very much appreciated.
FMForever,
Carol Collins

Dejavu? It's basically a rehash of what she has already said.

There was a glitch at Yahoo mail. Carol sent the post on March 15
and it never made it to the TG-Fiction Group. She re-sent it and it
got posted. The original lost post finally appeared this morning! I
didn't look at the date and re-posted it here, sorry!
