201 posts!

From: bob , 185 months, post #202
take away the "bumps" and you'll only have about 175 posts.

I just don't understand why it is so hard to come up with one person from the FM task force that actually knows what is going on that can come here and say, "Look, it's gonna be BY this date."

There is nothing but whispers of things posted on other sites and speculation. It's a damn shame that the one thing that ties together this ENTIRE community is viewed in such a way that we are forced to resort to rumors and speculation.

From: guest (genericperson) , 185 months, post #203
Well, I'm just guessing here, but it's an all volunteer team, yes?

So probably a lot of why they can't lay out a date is that they're all doing the work in their spare times and they're probably delayed further by the fact that they're all in different time zones and coordinating is probably deeply difficult.

Just a guess, though.

The kind of problems they've described in recovering the data aren't questions of just hitting a few buttons, y'know.

Perhaps we should make the asumption the FM will NEVER return and start requsting individuals send in their stories and rebuild the collection.... For a start here is Old Joe's Collection...

It's worth to say, that those stories are about CD.
I didn't find any without that theme.

Somewhere in this thread I think I posted this before but here is a web index to some of Old Joe's Collection

http://www.asstr.org/files/Collections/Old_Joe's_Collection/TG/

There are many non-crossdressing stories there.

Since the concern trolls are going to be all over this, before you go to that address be aware that these stories were collected from USEnet and various BBS before there was any money to be made from the internet and, therefore, before anybody really cared what kind of porn was being shared over the net. If you go up one level from this link you will find indices of stories featuring pedophilia, rape, and incest. If you go all the way up to the Collections index you will be in the wilds of internet porn and will certainly find something that will offend you.

Go here and read the disclaimer/warning before complaining to the trusted users that metamorphose is going to be dropped down the memory hole or allowing such linkage.

Another repost from FM Taskforce member Carol Collins on the TG-Fiction Yahoo Group.

As was stated last Sunday, the old files from the defunct server were salvaged
and were transferred to the new machine. Since the old server was in another
country and no Task Force member could go to extract the files personally,
retrieving the files was no small endeavor.

Now, the several different software packages installed on the new machine have
to be massaged to make them work together seamlessly. Talea has put in many
hours over the last week to debug the system.

Mindy has put in the request to have the www.fictionmania.com url point to the
new server. If everything went through properly, you should be able to access
the opening test page within a couple of days. If it does not get moved to the
new server by the end of the week, we will have to wait a couple of weeks for
Mindy to return from a business trip to straigthen out that problem.

Moving slower than anyone likes (especially the Task Force members), but, we are
making progress.

FMForever,
Carol Collins

Nce to hear the words "couple of days" thrown in.

From: guest , 184 months, post #209
Never ending story. Always "soon", and then nothing again.

Man, Post #209... does it hurt being that ungrateful?

The strain alone.

From: guest , 184 months, post #211
People these days always looking for a freaking handout. Everytime they get something for free and it's taken away they complain and whine.

Beggars can't be choosers.FM was offered free of charge thousands of stories absolutely free and people are criticizing the task force for taking too long to get the site back up. Give me break. Stop whining and get a little freaking more grateful.

From: bob , 184 months, post #212
not everyone is expecting a handout. Dig through the history of these messages and you will see offers of cash thrown at the task force. So many people have offered help to this group of people, with no interest.

Why is it that the words we hear from the "task force" are only reposts. why do they never come here directly?

From: guest (BangBang) , 184 months, post #213
I agree. I have a great deal of respect for the Task Force. However, it's part of a community (the task force isn't responsible writing each individual story), and I believe they should take funds that would help benefit the website and community.

From: guest , 184 months, post #214
I'm obviously not saying everyone is whiny and ungrateful. It's more the words of a few that made me go on that rant :/

From what I understand of the problem there's very little money will solve at this point.

Why haven't any of the Task Force members posted here, you ask? Do any of the Task Force member post here, ever? Where does it matter where they post? The word has gotten out. Let us wait, if a few more weeks pass by so be it. So long as the site is up and running again soon, I'll be happy :)

From: guest (me2) , 184 months, post #215
there are a dozen or so in control of the task force plus story posters who check format etc. All are volunteers. the delays are due to several unforseen problems, most of which have been posted above from messages by carol collins, one of the task f. leaders. They have enough money to run the site but the programming flaws are causing the delay. the T force contribute funds as needed when the great sponsor cant cover the unexpected. the 1 time they needed money they asked top authors to auction stories written for the winner to their desire and raised the funds needed.

so just wait a bit longer. It will be back. And thank the task force once in a while when they are back online. The writers and task force are all volunteers and praise is free, so give some when you get the chance. they deserve it for all their efforts the last 10 years!

So...did someone put a password on fictionmirror? Or am I just doing it wrong?

From: guest , 184 months, post #217
Yep, it asks for a login and password now...

From: guest (Holidayguy) , 184 months, post #218
I get a broken link error...

Still, keep at it taskforce! I sense that it will be soon...

Sorry about that, the dns update service stopped working and it wasn't keeping the fictionmirror.dnsalias.net 's ip updated. It's fixed now.
