My knowledge on computer magic is below par so Might be asking a
stupid question here but, Assuming we add to the current upload of
YAWYW It will disappear After the Correct backlogs have been found
and implemented won't it?

About a year ago? I have to dive in and get the last added entries.
As for the backups being found, im going to talk to zach about it
and see if we can painlessly add found branches.

I have found a copy of some stories I was working on and have
posted them. I will post more if I find any if that's okay.
Peace out

Nobody do anything yet as far as reposts! Reposts this early could
lead to duplication, which would be okay but id prefer to avoid
before the move starts. One we have exhausted all backup sources we
will announve word on restoring other branches.

Good work guys.
My offer is still open to build Fiction Branches 3 in PHP if Zach
is happy for me to do so, he had some concerns years back that it
may not be as polymorphic as his PERL scripts are but I think those
are long since past :) All I'd need is the SQL database and
somewhere to upload FB3 to as i work on it :)
But that's up in the air.

Zach actually said that they are flat files after all. Ive brought
up the idea of an experimental secondary story built on a new
system. Maybe i can coax him into letting us make that FB 3.0 for a
migration eventually. For now i just want him focused on those
backups.
fictionbranches.net
New domain is live on new hosting but redirects to old transform.to
story. because of that id like everyone to avoid too much posting
until weve moved to new servers, since unless he shuts down editing
when he moves it we might lose those newer additions anyway.
New forum?
Messaged zach about this to, installing a dedicated forum.
The_Guest wants to bring in a real BBS. (Like one youd see anywhere
else on the net)
The_guest is working on a backing up plan for stories but until the
sites ready on new hosting, details will be sketchy.

Simply, I'll set up a job on my home server to pull the files using
rsync, so I'll have a backup here, and I back my server up to S3.
I was going to suggest at least one or two others with their own
server have a backup, for redundancy.

I have another look through some of my old files and have found
some more work of mine from Jan 3 2012. I tend to write my branches
in word and then spell check them before posting. I can be a really
bad speller at times. Sometimes I save the word file so that I can
work on the story at a later date.
My bad habits might be helpful this time. Anyway is there a
timetable for the new site to be up and running so that new
episodes can be added and will when this is the case will I add the
stuff I find the same way as I did before.
Peace Out
Scarlett

I was hoping that archive.org would be backing the site up more
regularly but I think because it's niche you have to request it,
archive.org's fully out of date these days for the site and a lot
of pages weren't archived. Kind of a pity.
Be careful on the new forum. Transform.to is a very, VERY old
server. Until you can confirm that we'll have a new server, there
is very little chance that you'll be able to put a proper BBS up on
there.
However, when the time comes, we should be able to get a bridging
script written that will let you use your forum account to post on
FB and vice versa.

Brayn: Transform.to isn't being touched. The page you reach at
fictionbranches.net is on the new server already, and just has a
link to the old material while we wait for zach to migrate the
backup to the new server. Its my server and i still have a month
till renewal, so we will have a chance to move if we need to, and i
have funds to front for hosting. Each part (domain, hosting,
backup) is currently owned and managed by different people so if
one link in the chain drops or goes awol the other two can bring
the site back up quickly.
waiting for zach to reply, the time table is when he moves the
backup and configures it were done. New host is ready, domain is
attached, and apparently guest is ready to setup backups.
Let me clarify: everything is ready, the hosting access is in place
and domain is already set there. Its all waiting on zach. Hopefully
this weekend ill hear something.
- DocLock
- php guys, ill announce if we do anything like that after launch.
We need to figure out whos in charge of what really. Its a group
thing at the moment and will probably stay that way. I need to get
into a real chat with zach about the site and its future. But my
priority right now is new hosting.

Ahhh, reminds me of my good ol chats with Zach back in 08 and 09.
If you convince him to shift from Perl and to hand over coding
reigns, good luck.
In regards to future improvements, I engaged the entire site on
this a few years back and came up with a full development list that
Zach accepted and wanted to implement, I can send that too you
sometime so you can see what FB users actually want in a new FB 3.0
site when given the option. Of course it all comes down to whether
Zach will let people tinker with his code or not going forward.

Brayn, email me. Leon.mosel for gmail.
Everyone else, progress behind the scenes, but I work on weekends
and server decisions need to be made along with emails so its slow
going. plus I just moved so I'm living in a box fort.

The latest appears to be that Fiction Branches will go live back at
fb.countd.eu. Apparently Countd reappeared, which means we'll have
the database back up to date and the site back.
We still have the domain, and DL and I are discussing putting a
landing page there. We have it for the year, at least, anyway. At
least then, if there is a problem with the site over at countd.eu,
we'll have somewhere to go to find out info.
