"TG community is mostly transgendered people." Do you think this is true?

Anonymous internet confession-- since before puberty, I was obsessed with the idea of being female. I remember in my early teens literally praying at night that I'd wake up and be a girl. But for a variety of reasons, I've lived my life as a heterosexual male. TG fiction is a bit of wish fulfillment, obviously. But for me, I dislike the majority of the stuff out there, because it's more fetish material-- when a man is transformed into a woman, that new woman is invariably super sexualized and beautiful in a way designed to appeal to men. It's designed to appeal to a male gaze, not someone who might fantasize about leading a life as a normal woman.

I like the stories where the protagonist turns into a female version of himself, or at least just a regular person who is female. One of my favorite TG sequences was in the comic Narbonic, where the hapless minion of a mad scientist is turned into a girl. He/she comments "A lot of guys say if they had breasts, they'd never get out of the shower...now that I've got them, my only strong emotion is annoyance that the left one is lopsided". Not exactly fetish material :) But wish there were more of that in TG fiction.

Oh, and if you're going to make accusations about mods. Provide proof.

Don't get angry at us because someone else once hurt your feelings, and then assume you know who we are.

"TG community is mostly transgendered people." Do you think this is true?

Not sure about anyone else, but in my case i don't think so. I like TG stories and media just like i like star trek and medieval video games. They are a glimpse into another world that i'll never experience. But i'm completely fine with my sexuality and gender identity and have no desire to permanently change. I have a curiosity... but that's about it. I'm also curious about being an astronaut, but i have no desire whatsoever to deal with all the training, and the hard work being an actual astronaut would entail.

I approach TG fiction the same way.

I'm transgender, but in my experience, that puts me in the minority in the TG transformation community. From what I've seen, for most people who are interested in TG transformation fiction, it's simply a fetish and nothing more.

There are people here who are trans, myself included; for me, TG transformation fiction is a form of wish fulfillment, not a fetish, and I know I'm not alone in feeling that way. But I doubt trans people make up more than, say, 10-20% of the community.

Just to clear something up briefly, since I've seen this come up a few times in this thread: there's a huge difference between sexuality and gender identity. Saying that you're heterosexual or not attracted to men is irrelevant to this conversation. The vast majority of people who identify as gay or lesbian have no desire to change sex, and a great many people who identity as trans are not attracted to their birth sex. Those trans individuals who are attracted to their birth sex do not transition for that reason; their sexual orientation is incidental to their desire to transition.

The problem is what "trans" (without any following syllables) means seems to vary from place to place and time to time. Some would say that having a "fetish" about imagining your self being a woman is a "trans" thing. Watching someone ELSE do so probably usually isn't.

Some, when they say "trans" exclusively mean transsexual -- many include transvestite in it.

And, even with all that aside, I would bet that, like everything else, it isn't black and white. There are probably varying degrees of being "trans". I imagine there are some people (I used to think I was one of these) who might like to be able to be one or the other from time to time, not for the thrill of "transforming", but depending on their mood. I know that there are some days when I feel more like a woman than others -- and times I honestly WISH I could still be perceived as a male for misc reasons.

I must have the wrong idea of what T.G stands for lol aren't we all a bit transgendered?

From: guest (Kathie) , 91 months, post #29
Exactly... and, maybe, deciding "how much" is not important in and of itself.

Why do people seem to need labels so badly?

"... aren't we all a bit transgendered?"

Nope, some of those here who are interested in TG are simply interested in seeing or hearing or reading about it. Some of those get turned on (or are otherwise interested) in seeing the TG happen to someone else... others are interested in a power shift or making other uncomfortable. I'm sure that there are other reasons that one would be interested in TG material.

And then there are those of us who may or may not be TG to some extent, but are mainly curious about being swapped or transformed... most, just temporarily.

So as has been posted previously, there is variation in the level of TG that is felt by the TG (-fan) community here.

I am straight, with wife and children :)
I am having a little autogynephillia too, but this is far from transgenderism - rather I like woman body so much, that sometimes I fantasise how would be to be her not him.
Of course - temporal change into a woman - I would love it. Permanently - only if it happens in distant pass, when I am still young and I would be pretty :)

It is just fantasy, maybe little fetish - that's all. And I think, that it is more common option, then transgenderism.

Again, what is the definition of "transgenderism". According to Wikipedia:

"Transgender people are people who have a gender identity, or gender expression, that differs from their assigned sex. Transgender people are sometimes called transsexual if they desire medical assistance to transition from one sex to another. Transgender is also an umbrella term: in addition to including people whose gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex (trans men and trans women), it may include people who are not exclusively masculine or feminine (people who are genderqueer, e.g. bigender, pangender, genderfluid, or agender). Other definitions of transgender also include people who belong to a third gender, or conceptualize transgender people as a third gender.Infrequently, the term transgender is defined very broadly to include cross-dressers, regardless of their gender identity."

Without a clear, very specific, definition that you're talking about, it's hard to say if something falls into that category or not -- unless they have NO interest in the other gender other than as someone to have sex with. Some would say that anyone who even fantasises about being a woman would be "transgendered".

What this post does show is what a nasty bunch of people we can be, wear whatever label you want, but if you like to imagine what it's like to be a member of the opposite sex for whatever reason then you are transgendered, maybe the desire isn't to the same extent as others, but we are all the same community so get over it. Or if you don't want to be a member of the community, just don't post on posts like this. If anyone gets angry because of their fetish then go and see a therapist, it did wonders for me.

Easy, guest 33. Where are those negative waves coming from?

Looks like the past few days have just added opinion and thoughts about TG and what it means, and how it relates to us. Were you seeing some animosity in there?

From: guest (leon) , 90 months, post #35
I feel kinda sad how my thread/question riled up some people. It was never my intention to hurt anyone, even indirectly.

Regardless, I'd really like to thank everyone, and I do mean everyone who were able to express their opinions. I like how the anonymity allows us to talk about what most of us feel pressured not to.

I hope it was constructive and informative for content creators, and for those of us who enjoy the content they create as we all look for different experiences, temporary or permanent.
