At the risk of derailing the overwhelming TG elements of this
thread, there are also some of us who enjoy other types of
transformations. For example, if you think there would be
challenges to transforming your gender, imagine suddenly being,
say, a horse. You would be dealing with a new way to walk, a new
way to see, to behave, to interact with others both human and
equine, even simple things like eating will be alien to you.
Personally I love this particular aspect of transformations in
general. Having to deal with an entirely new kind of life is about
as exciting to me as bungee jumping is to others :)
And for a little background, I think this first occurred to me
after watching an Outer Limits episode called "The Architects of Fear"
which involved scientists surgically altering a man to appear as
an alien in order to unite the world against a perceived external
threat. After watching that I just couldn't get my mind off what
that would be like to literally become something so far removed
from humanity. After all, we already know what it's like to be
human, even the opposite gender. Men and women are more alike than
different, with only some minor social conventions separating the
two. But to be another kind of creature - that would be something.

"Growing up, boys can run around pretty much anywhere, girls
quickly learn that their world is more constrained."
I've not heard things voiced in quite this way before.
"Women frequently act differently because they have to. Even simple
stuff like how to get your point across in an office meeting is
colored by being a woman."
You would think that I'd have heard and remembered this. But I
don't recall ever hearing anyone relate that.
Yes, these would certainly be curious things to experience...
though I'm not sure that I'd want to put up with that crap. It
would, however, be an eye-opening experience, that's for sure. And
I think that if I were to get stuck in my new female body, I would
keep having to comfort myself knowing that every other woman has to
put up with the same problems (or worse), every single day... and I
was lucky enough to know what life is like without them.
Lady Sekhmet, welcome back! Being another kind of creature would be
something, indeed! Eh, well, the title didn't specify TG-only, so
not exactly a derailment... more like a parallel track. :-)
I think for me, an animal transformation would be exciting for the
size and mobility abilities / limitations... and the tail. But yes,
getting to try to understand and correctly negotiate the various
interactions between members of groups of the same creature,
different species, and with humans in your new form / body would
certainly be interesting to experience.
I think the main turn-off for me, in an animal swap or TF, is the
removal of human comforts that I've become accustomed to. I doubt
that I'd like to be out in the cold of winter, or get soaked in a
cold rain, especially when I've no way to dry off and recover in
the warmth of a warm and dry house. And food -- while I could
probably deal with being an herbivore, the other omnivores and any
carnivores that deal with eating meat in various stages of dead...
and fur... and all sorts of strange other things that I've no
current taste for is a bit souring. And as with backwoods survival,
injuries and ailments could be deadly.
That's probably why I prefer my non-human TFs or swaps to be
temporary only, as compared to the more human ones, where if it was
permanent, I'd be a bit less devastated.
And I really have to thank exposure to this very website for the
introduction of my interest in hybrids... any mix of animal, human,
and android, to my TF / swap list. Maybe I'll touch on that in my
visit.

This isn't really something most men realize, I think, but I heard
complaints about this issue from many women I know in leadership
and managerial positions. My point is that there is a different way
women are expected to approach the social world beyond just
dressing differently and being the focus of male attention. I don't
think it's all bad-- women are more readily accepted in a nurturing
role, for example. But while individuals can ignore social
conventions, it always comes with a social price.
Imagine our former male who is now one of our tg staples, the
twenty something buxom girl trying out sexy outfits. She may enjoy
all the attention and free drinks she's getting at the bar -- until
the creep she was just making friendly conversation with just won't
go away and gets hostile when she seems to be rejecting him. She
hasn't learned the necessary protective techniques for social
interaction that women learn as they grow up.

That women get different responses for the same behavior as men
isn't a new observation. Many women have given examples of being in
a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't dilemma. If you aren't as
aggressive/assertive as the men in the office you're seen as weak.
If you are, you're a bitch. There's no happy medium in a lot of
work places.
I was surprised years ago when there were a couple of surveys show
that while a majority of men would not be comfortable with a female
boss, an even stronger majority of women admitted they weren't.
That would be frustrating and probably more prevalent in some
industries.
