I don't think there is any new news for this moment. The show is long over and and I don't heard any news about sequel or any other development.

If you can't get enough of it, the source material, novel "The Promotion of a Crown Princess" is available online for free, but of course it's in Chinese. Someone has started an English translation, but so far only manage to do the first chapter and I think the effort is now abandoned. There is also another person, a drama reviewer, who partially translated the last chapter into English. So at least the first chapter and some part of the last chapter are available in English. Just Google.

So basically what the novel is about actually? I have not finish reading it but from what I have read and from the discussion on the Internet it seems that it is largely similar to the series with some differences. In the novel it is actually explained quite early about what actually happened: A heaven official made a mistake. The original crown princess was supposed to be born as a boy and the modern man was supposed to be born as a girl. To rectify the mistake, the official switches both of them. So we know earlier what actually cause the swap and we also know that the likelihood of the new princess to return to her original body in modern time is quite low. And indeed, she does stay as a woman in the end. Too bad the novel doesn't show what happened in the modern time with the original princess now in that playboy's body! The adaption to modern life would certainly be a lot harder for him than for the new princess.

It seems that the princess (later empress) and her husband, the prince (later emperor) are both quite politically adept than their series counterparts. It is arguable whether she really fall in love with her husband in the end. What is clear is that the emperor does love her, otherwise she would have died many times already, considering her many plots against him. In fact, it could be said that, despite her political savvy, most of her problems are self-inflicted. She seems like someone who has watched too much of Games of Thrones and Chinese period dramas and has a dark view of what palace life ought to be. If you like a darker version of the princess this novel is for you, but as I said only the first chapter and part of the last chapter are available in English.

Bit more about the book's final chapter (don't know if this is the same thing you saw or not) - it's a translation of the end.
