Message deleted by cj. Voicing your opinion is fine, but do so with respect. This isn't 4-Chan. ~~ "I don't think religion should be depicted on tv shows so this kinda pissed me off..." moderated portion of post deemed ignorant or intolerant / lacking cultural respect.

I hesitate to respond to this, because this could turn very ugly very quickly, but I think this needs to be said. I suggest CJ or another moderator watch this thread closely, though.

I don't think this is meant to promote religion by any means. It appears, from a quick Google search, that this is just a high school sitcom, not a religious show, per se. These women are wearing head scarves not because they're actively trying to push religion but because many Muslim women happen to wear head scarves (and, incidentally, many don't). This is no different than a character on an American show wearing a cross necklace.

Actually, it's not even that; Muslim women who do wear head scarves don't generally remove them in public, so they wouldn't normally take them off to go to work or school. Women who wear head scarves do so out of modesty, so asking them to go without head scarves would be almost like expecting female characters on a high school sitcom to do the show topless because you don't like it when shows push religion by making people wear clothing and they'd be hotter without shirts on. It's not religious propaganda; it's just a reflection of the basic sense of propriety of some Muslim women.

Also, keep in mind that this is a Malaysian show. It's not made in the United States or Canada or Australia or Europe. The culture is different; the customs are different; people dress differently; and people have different social expectations. Malaysia is a majority-Muslim country, with 61% of the population practicing Islam. While head scarves may be so uncommon in the West that they look to our eyes like an overt religious expression, it would not be unusual at all to see many women in Malaysia wearing head scarves. Insisting that no one on a Malaysian show wear a head scarf wouldn't be keeping the show religiously neutral; it would be a strange suppression of religion, along the lines of Western television shows banning all cross necklaces, all mentions of churches, all crucifixes on the walls in sets, all mentions of the words "God" and "Jesus", all Christmas episodes, all characters who are even remotely religious. Wouldn't that be strangely, uncomfortably repressive? While secular Western television doesn't generally push religion, neither do we pretend religion doesn't exist.

If you're actually "pissed" by that 40 seconds of innocent video, you have anger issues.

Thank you for the additional cultural / regional insights guest (post 3).

Let's try to keep this discussion firmly planted in the TF material, and less about cultural and religious opinions. This thread is NOT the place for such discussions. Thank you.

Who can tell me what this show is about? The plot?

"Who can tell me what this show is about?"

"... The plot?"

From the show's own page ( http://www.ohmyenglish.com.my/ms/utama ):

SEKILAS PANDANG
EPISOD 16: THE SWAP
AHAD 29 NOVEMBER 6:30PTG

Cikgu Ayu dan Jojie berkelahi mengenai satu hal hinggakan mereka tak tahan satu sama lain, hinggalah satu kejutan elektrik telah menyebabkan Cikgu Ayu dan Jojie bertukar badan! Mereka terpaksa meneruskan kehidupan seperti biasa kerana Cikgu Ayu sedang menjalani penilaian prestasi manakala Jojie perlu mengetuai pasukannya dalam sebuah pertandingan. Mereka mencari jalan untuk kembali ke keadaan asal dan ini menyebabkan mereka lebih memahami akan satu sama lain."

The body of which Google translates to:

"Ms Ayu and Jojie fighting about one thing that they can not stand each other , until one fatal accident has caused Ms Ayu and Jojie turned body ! They had to continue life as normal as Ms Ayu is undergoing performance evaluation while Jojie have led his team in a match. They find their way back to their original shape and this will cause them to better understand each other ."

Took me about two minutes to Google that for you.

CJ, Saying someone has anger issues is not an "attack". I don't recall any ad hominems in my sentence. Please stop treating this site like Disney Channel when it is populated mostly by adults. This is why some people end up having big quarrels with you.

You claim it's for the longevity of the site in making people feel welcome yet Youtube is one of the most vicious sites on the internet yet it is also the most popular. Same for other more closely related sites such as Reddit or 4chan. People aren't SO fragile as you think. I'm not trying to say you shouldn't do any policing but ease up, man!

I've been on this site for years now and yet the only person in my experience that has truly made me feel unwelcome here is you, multiple times.

This is off-topic so feel free to delete it but I did want you to read it.

Noted. Thank you for your candor.

Hold the 1980s cellular phone. Someone makes a thread about a show that I've never heard of and it entices me because I'm curious. The poster doesn't give any info on the plot and instead goes off on a rant about politics and society yet I'm lectured on how it took 2 minutes on google to look it up?

Don't make threads about shows and movies unless you're gonna give some info and details about it. I'm not going to waste my time looking it up unless I have solid intel.

Good day sir!

"... The poster doesn't give any info on the plot and instead goes off on a rant about politics and society yet I'm lectured on how it took 2 minutes on google to look it up?..."

Almost. Because the poster probably submitted the material right away after seeing the preview that was linked, but not the actual episode. In fact, the OP specifically mentioned that they weren't sure where to watch the episode.

Had ~I~ wanted to know more about the item, I would have looked it up (such as I did to answer your question), and then shared it with everyone here (like I did). THIS is how we all contribute to collective knowledge... by seeking out and then sharing information. It was my hope that that nudge (not a lecture - THIS is a lecture) would prompt you to help contribute in the future.

And it was NOT the OP who went off on the political, etc. rant, so please keep your facts straight.

"Don't make threads about shows and movies unless you're gonna give some info and details about it..."

I disagree. TF content found should be shared, especially if one cannot find details about it. The collective memories and minds and effort that this community provides can sometimes turn that clue into a gem.

But, yes, when one has access to more details when posting (and especially when submitting new content), then yes, it should be included.

"I'm not going to waste my time looking it up unless I have solid intel."

That is your prerogative. Just don't expect us to do all the work for you. Just like with everything else in life, if you want something, you're going to have to seek it out (and probably do a bit of work to get it). And helping the community every once in awhile is always nice too.

Now, if we can get this thread back on-topic. Feel free to start a new thread to respond to any off-topic thoughts.

Ive looked almost everywhere so far I haven't found anything the facebook page says you can watch any of the episodes on astro on the go but then I created an account but it won't let me access any of the vids, so ya hard to find but I'll keep on digging for it

From: guest (OCBR) , 101 months, post #14
IINM, you could get to watch some astro channels (ASTRO is a paid satellite service, and Oh My English is actually an in house production of Astro) using streaming apps like KODI.

Not sure if the channel screening the series is included in those astro channels streamed through KODI/XBMC.

Google around to how configure KODI, and the series is aired in an educational channel, TVIQ of Astro.
