Hi all,
I know this is going to come off sounding like a Reddit thread,
But do we have any members (pun intended) here who have
Transitioned MTF? What's the greatest challenge you faced?
When did you realize you wanted to make the leap?
This is something that creeps up on my mind now and again.
Who do I really see in the mirror? And sometimes, when I see
an attractive woman or well dressed woman,
I imagine about being her rather than being with her, at first.

Greatest challenge? Probably it was just getting myself to believe
that I was believable as female. In retrospect, I have no doubt
that I passed from day one... but it took a very long time before I
believed it. Self confidence made a big difference.
I knew for as long as I can remember that I want to transition but
I would not have used that word because I did not know it was a
possibility. It was more a question of when I realized that it was
possible and that I could integrate into society and be perceived
as a woman and not be perceived as anything else.

Honestly, if I ever went through with it, I ask myself how much of
an emotional and financial commitment it would take to make me
passable and completely assimilate into my new persona. The thought
of dressing completely in the feminine gets my motor running.
However, I would want to be a step above a mere crossdresser.
Did you ever have problems with other women accepting you?
I've thought about dressing, getting my hair done and so forth on
Halloween, but I always chicken out. I don't live in a very
progressive area.
Being able to live a completely new life would make it for me.
As a 5'11 guy with an average build and size 13 feet, it would take
a considerable amount of effort to conceal these unmistakable
masculine features.

DoorsOfDoom, have you checked out the thread "Message from a Male
to Female" on this board? It is one of the most popular recent
threads and has been near the top of the board pretty much since it
was first started.
I will mention that the original post is a reprint of an online
item originally posted over a decade ago. But you may find what it
has to say interesting.

No, as much as I'd like to experience being a woman physically, I
have no interests in feminine clothes, mannerisms, how they are
treated by society, makeup, spending hours on my hair or having
long hair at all.
It's just a biological thing for me, I feel the wrong gender, but
that's as far as it goes. If I had been born a woman I'd still have
scruffy short hair and wear trousers. So I've stuck with being an
effeminate man... If the technology ever progresses to a point
where a full change (body transplant?) is possible I might sign up,
but I'm getting old now, so probably stuck with my ugly mug for
life.

DoorsOfDoom: Actually I had very few problems with other women
accepting me. I never had a problem socializing with women (as a
friend) before, though, either. I would be out with groups of women
(that I worked with) in high school and college, frequently, and
they would have no problem talking about their periods and who was
still a virgin and similar topics around me. The dynamics were VERY
different when "another" guy joined us on these outings, though.
Funny that I never noticed these things until after I started
dealing with my issues.
One funny story, just for example, I was always thin as a rail
(unfortunately not any more)... I remember one time during my
transition (i.e. I was pre-op) I was out with a group of people and
one other woman and I went to the ladies room... I made some kind
of comment about my lack of breasts and she (who was overweight,
but no obese) said "Girl! I would swap bodies with you in a
SECOND!" and I remember thinking (but not saying), "if we did, you
would be in for one helluva shock" -- but all I did do was get a
wide smile on my face and say "thank you."

@guest, post 5
Huh.
You know, once or twice I'd heard that it's possible for one to be
trans, and yet not want to transition. I'd never quite understood
why not, until right this very moment. So, uh... thank you.
Sincerely. Thanks for expanding my worldview that little bit more.
