Does anyone happen to know who the dude is to the left of Jake Sherman in his sister's body gawking in the mirror, pointing and laughing at him? That's not his sister in his body is it?

http://tgscifi.rachelshaven.com/images/helptrapped.jpg

Also why is Jake's reflected image not of him dressed in his sister's clothing?

From: guest (set3) , 106 months, post #2
the boy on the left laughing at the girl is how the brother actually looks. (Presumably, it's the sister in his body laughing at him)

And the reflection in the mirror is supposed to show the switch, if you look at the reflection. the brother is wearing similar style clothing to the girl in front of it. the boy in the reflection also has his hair styled in a similar manor to the girls' hair.

The cover does do a good job at showing the swap in its subtle way in my opinion.

It is a nice cover. I like how he has become taller in his sister's body. A pity why don't see her face.

I haven't read it, so I don't know who the laughing guy is. Does anyone know how old the sister is, though?

"the boy on the left laughing at the girl is how the brother actually looks. (Presumably, it's the sister in his body laughing at him)"

I always thought it was one of Jake's friends laughing at him. Also why would the sister be laughing at him in her body?

The boy in the mirror looks drastically different to me than the boy to the left, with different facial features and different hair styles.

Wait if the guy to the left is the brother then why is Jake in the mirror slightly taller than him?

Also is
Jake in the mirror wearing makeup, like lipstick and eyeliner?

I'd have to re-read the story, but IIRC Jessica is in Middle School, Junior High School, and Jake is upper levels of elementary / primary. I recall the feeling that they were only 2 or 3 years apart in age.

My opinion on the cover was that the laughing fellow was one of Jake's friends, the girl was Jessica, and the reflection was Jake - this is not an actual portrayal of the story... merely a representation of the swap, his take of his friends' reaction if they were to find out, and his reaction to the unforeseen repercussions that followed.

Holy... heck I have the actual book. I know I never saw that, if you're able to see that, your eyes for such things are much better than mine.

at cj

Oh I just thought the makeup his sister's body was wearing was being reflected in his image, his lips look a little red to me and his eyebrows look kind of darkened, but maybe that's just me.

"... but maybe that's just me."

Ah, perception. Could be you, could be me... we all see things slightly differently. :-)

I'm kind of glad that they did put the Jake reflected in the mirror in male clothes rather than his sister's clothes...

If you want a good laugh look at this image someone from 4chan made to alter the book cover

Yes, I like that he is wearing male clothes, but that the outfit he is wearing in his sister's body is kind of similar to his own.

One of the things I like, but that we seldom see is when the transformed person's clothes also transform to fit the news body, but somewhat remain similar. ie, in a TG like this one, pants and t-shirt would become a blouse and skirt, but keep the colors and something from the style, or in an AP, the clothes the girl was wearing remain the same but they are now more adult, maybe with a more revealing neck and high heels, or if she was wearing a t-shirt with cartoon characters, they change into a more adult-themed print.

Does anyone know other transformations where clothes do that?

Please start a new thread for that question.

Sorry... Just a collateral thing that ensued.

I always assumed it was one of Jake's friends laughing at him.

I, too, have not read the story but I did see the book in a gift store years ago and my recollection was that cj, guest 4 and DB Cooper were right b/c I did read the back cover summary and the inside front cover sample and that was exactly my impression. (I was too embarrassed to buy it even though it was a gift store b/c it was a children's book and there were no children in my family at the time and I didn't want to seem like a simp or a perv and have to say something like "harumph, this is for my nephew and neice" or some other lame obvious excuse. I know, I was a wuss).

In the series, the person he "switches" with doesn't actually get his body but just sort of "goes to sleep" or something to the effect that they don't remember that 24 hours or so that he was in their body. Guest 11, I think that this would constitute more of a possession of sorts than a transformation or swap.

The cover is showing him in his older sister's body (thus he is taller) seeing his own reflection Quantum Leap style. His friend is laughing at him b/c he's the only other person who knows about this "curse" or unexplained phenomenon that is the basis for the series where he has to live a day in someone else's shoes.

I read the book. He and his sister really do switch bodies (so the sister can impress the boy's pen pal with her athleticism, in exchange for the boy going to the dentist for his sister).

From: cj , 106 months, post #17
I concur with DB on the two actually switching.

"... seeing his own reflection Quantum Leap style..."

Since he's really in his sister's body and seeing his own reflection in the mirror... it would be reverse QL style. In Quantum Leap, he is in his own body, and sees the others' reflection in the mirror, not his own. :-)

From: guest (fifteen) , 106 months, post #18
Ahhh, ya' got me cj! And thanks DB (may they never catch you despite your wrongs >:-)

Can you tell a little more? If she gets to impress someone (younger?) and gets to avoid the dentist, what does he get out of it?

From: cj , 106 months, post #19
:-)

Check the Metamorphose entry for the book, then at the bottom click to the Comments thread and read through it - there are some more clues there. I don't want to spoil the story. :-)

You could always buy the book and tell the cashier you're just getting any old cheap book, so you can use the paper inside to roll your own cigars.
