I've noticed that it seems to be a major rule in a lot of stories
that two people cannot switch bodies if one of them is pregnant.
I never really understood that, particularly if the swapping device
or magic item is worn around a person's head, arm, neck, or finger.
I don't think this rule would actually apply. One could argue that
the baby/fetus would be a "separate life and therefore make it
complicated" but really if you're only swapping minds with someone
it would be focused and complex anyway.
Stepping into a "body swap chamber" is an argument I understand,
because a fly could get into there and jumble up the entire thing.
I just think it would be cool to wake up in the body of a pregnant
woman, and find out that she somehow caused the swap to escape her
old life. That would be very interesting.
Most stories don't go there because "it's impossible." But then
again so is swapping bodies, so I don't get it.

Usually it isn't a 'swap' that is prohibited, but a transformation.
The best example of this is the 'Medallion of Zulo'. It is a
transformative item, not transferrential. Because it is changing a
body it cannot do anything to that body which would harm a fetus.

I can recall only one Altered Fates story where a man-turned-woman
gets an abortion so she can use the Medallion sooner...

On the Lola version from Chile, Lalo was pregnant in Pepa's body
and swapped back and forth twice during the pregnancy.

My thoughts on that were that once a man (or woman) experienced
childbirth, they'd never want to go though another one. However,
that point seems flawed since there are plenty of women out there
not only willing, but wanting to have that second or third (or
more) pregnancy.
I had created a rule for swapping being stopped, or body and soul
becoming bonded for life at some critical moment: conception,
menarche, first vaginal penetration (not necessarily sex), loss of
virginity through vaginal intercourse, onset of puberty, trauma, or
(added just recently) soul's strong (very strong) desire to
experience pregnancy or nurse a child. Usually this was to protect
the child (or soul of any potential unborn child) from being
abandoned or endangered by the swap. Yeah, I know, danger happens
as the mother goes about her life anyway.
The latest idea was just the strong desire (or obsession) with
being pregnant / nursing triggering in the female body a kinship
that is shared by the soul (even if just briefly) and that if the
soul reciprocated the body's embrace, the body and soul would
merge, forming a life-long bond. It was a partial idea that came to
mind a few nights back - I haven't even formulated much a story
idea around it... just that the main character having it happen to
them was talking about it to her (female) friends, and they were
amazed that his soul had not only triggered the bond, but completed
it as well.
If anyone is so inspired, feel free to run with the idea (with my
blessing) - toss my name in the story (in a positive or neutral
role) or as a thanks at the beginning or the end, if you'd be so
kind.

That sounds like a really awesome idea for a story, CJ

i'd imagine because it's skipping out on the best part, the sex,
being in a woman's body having sex creating the thing that will be
growing inside is a whole lot better then ending up in a woman's
body who is all ready pregnant. Plus i'd imagine pregnancy sex is
not the greatest thing which most stories involve sex for obvious
reasons, like i'd have my legs spread in no time.

Jill - I don't know. I've had my share of fantasies about swapping
into an already pregnant woman. Yeah, I do wonder about what it'd
be like to have sex as a woman, I'd venture to go out on a limb and
say that it's half the time or less for me. My imaginings mainly
focus on difference of the body-mechanics... the way it feels to
move, sit, stand, sleep, etc. Also on the clothing. And since every
girl will have to urinate sometime, how that is different than as a
male.
I'd say that my desire to engage in sex to create pregnancy is a
recent development, and it certainly isn't always a necessity in my
mind for the swapped character to experience. My pregnancy
ideations are mostly for the experience of the pregnancy itself,
and 9 times out of 10, childbirth. Albeit, most of my fantasies
involve me only having to deal with little slices or samples of
pregnancy (usually in rapid sequential fashion), instead of
experiencing the actual drawn-out months and months of waiting and
living and dealing with it and any special care that may be needed.
