I can not for the life of me remember the name of this so I was
hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
Back in the 70's, around Halloween time, they used to show a
cartoon on TV that was probably made in the 60's and animated in
Korea or Japan or something. The type of transformation I can only
categorize as 'evil'.
What I can remember of the story is, it went something like:
Something was tricking kids into a place where there was a giant
gargoyle-like portal with an open mouth and when a lever got
pulled, this kids would get sucked through it and come out the
other side looking like Morlocks. (Green skin, white hair and eyes
and black troll-doll-like outfits) whereupon they would join the
other victims in this cult where they danced around in circles
chanting something silly yet ominous sounding like "We are witches!
Oom chow chow!" (Kids are so adorable)
One by one (or sometimes in groups) they would get picked off until
the protagonist boy ( and maybe his co-protagonist girl friend)
were the last ones left. He figured out to push the lever in the
other direction and the wind that sucked the kids in went backwards
and all the kids came back through the portal in the opposite
direction and were changed back to their normal selves. Thus, our
hero saved the day. (YAY!!)
Does this sound familiar to anyone and do you know where I might
look to find out what it was called?
Any help appreciated!

Sorry to say, that it doesn't sound familiar to me. Though from the
description, that type of transformation would really suck... or
blow. :-P

you have peaked my interest but I have not found anything so far.
Can you think of anything else about the episode

I've been wracking my brain to remember more but it was so long
ago. I've checked some movie and cartoon databases but haven't come
up with anything so far. Some of these details I might have gotten
wrong because my memory of it is sort of vague now, so don't let
any of these things throw you off. It's just a general impression
that I'm left with:
I remember seeing it in the early mid-70s. The animation was sort
of like Speed Racer but the colors were darker because all the
scenes were at night or in spooky rooms. I think all the characters
had dark hair and were a tiny little bit 'chibi' (only because they
were kids), but not in a comical way. I don't recall there being
any adult characters although, they may have just sort of barely
made appearances at the beginning. (The kids were unusually without
supervision, although that may be b/c back in the day it seemed
common for parents not to keep tabs on their kids as long as they
came home before dark). This stuff however took place at night,
though.
The room where the portal was was kind of like an abandoned throne
room(maybe). It was in some sort of castle or temple or other
'spooky' place that the kids often dared each other to go, but
nobody thought there was too much danger except the protagonist and
his girl friend who were trying to convince people to be careful
because they knew something was up but people wouldn't believe them
until it was too late.
A lot of the floors and walls were grey or bluish-grey because it
was supposed to look like stone in the moonlight and dark and
spooky. The dancing the little troll-doll Morlocks did was I think
outside, maybe behind the portal.
I don't remember if the evil force that wanted to convert all the
children even had a body or was just a voice. Maybe made in Japan?

Try www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue It's a subreddit for exactly
this sort of thing, and they are usually very good at it.
