Paralysed man walks
From: guest , 114 months, post #1
A huge step for paralysed people and a small step towards brain transplants.

I assume that this is what you are referring to:

http://www.bbc.com/news/health-29645760

If so, then yes... very good news, not just for the future of brain transplants... but to millions of people with spinal cord and other nerve damage / injuries.

Nice find. Thanks for sharing.

Just caught this on BBC World this morning.

What amazes me is that the neurons are able to find their way from one end of the damaged area to the other. In other words, the ability of a nerve that controls the toe to find its matching partner at the other end of the spinal injury instead of cross connecting to a knee nerve or something like that.

Truly amazing work and tremendous news for those with these sorts of debilitating injuries.

Obviously it has fun "brain transplant" implications for us but mostly I'm just happy to see some new hope for those with spinal injuries.

The brain is a fantastic thing, I too assumed that it would be too complex to ever fix, no wonder the lead doctor said it was bigger then landing on the moon.
