Anybody know where I can find a digital copy of the script? It
sounds like it had a lot of interesting TG details that were
omitted like Voice Over and a lesbian sex scene.
This link has a sample page that shows some differences from the
shopping scene.

I can't say anything about what's digital, but I bought a script of
Switch back in the 90's. That version had some minor differences
from the script that was shot, but they didn't amount to much nor
was the script version any better than the movie they made.
I really believe that what was good in Switch was expanded and
better developed in the versions of Lalola. I didn't really like
Amanda, but Lola is a character fit to love. In this case, the
knockoffs are much better than the original.

I agree about the Switch/Lalola comparison. Lola was a character
you cared about. Lalo was even a good friend to Grace. Steve just
seemed like an all around jerk whose redemption didn't feel earned.

Do you factor in the sexuality transformation ie Lalo falling in
love with a man and screwing him while Steve as Amanda still likes
women but doesn't want to be a lesbian but doesn't want to sleep
with me? Confusing as hell.

But does Amanda still like women? When it came time to sleep with
Dr. Melfi she passed out. I heard in the script she went through
with it but in 1990 that was too controversial so they reshot the
scene.
I find it more interesting when TG characters change, which is why
I really hope that SAM movie gets made. But I do understand that
not every TG fan likes it when the changee starts finding men
attractive.

Tough question. Not really sure.
The beef that some people have with the Lalola is that the main
character just eventually 100 percent fully accepts it. Toward the
end of the series, the main character now in a woman's body meets
his male body that is now occupied by the woman who he is inside.
They meet and catch up on things and after all that, the main
character Lalo/Lola says no and decides to stay as Lola. That's not
realistic. A guy is going to want to have his guy body back.
There's nothing bad about a guy experimenting with men while he is
in the body of a woman but most guys wouldn't want to be stuck with
a vagina and breasts forever. They would miss their penis and balls
and they would be mad that a woman is in their body.

Acutally the original script and the original scene had Amanda and
Shelia having their one night stand togther. When the studio showed
it to test audiences it was panned, so they reshot it with Amanda
running away. Remember it was the time that switch was made in.
Polictical Correctness abounded no one wanted to do or say, or show
anything that might offend someone else.

I'm really disappointed, that for a R rated film, you never get to
see Amanda naked but we get to see Jimmy Smits ass.
And as for Political Correctness, it's ironic that they didn't want
to offend the heterosexual majority with a lesbian scene and yet it
was okay for Amanda to call Jim Jay Bullock a "faggot"

I've heard this argument before, Post #6, that Lalola is not
"realistic." Do all stories of this kind have to end the same way?
Look at all the different choices that people make involving every
conceivable issue. What is be realistic for one critic is always
unrealistic for another. the Lalola show was pretty popular, so it
must have delivered what a great many of its fans wanted. The
choice most Lolas make is always well forshadowed and
well-justified by the story (which is a long and well-developed
one). What would be the point of watching 150 shows if the
character is too dense or stubborn to learn a new outlook? That
would be circular plotting. Some would like it, but for many it
would be a trip that wasn't worth the walking.

Political correctness? What about The Rocky Horror Picture Show? It
had a transvestite as the main villain and also showed him having
sex with both Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandons characters Brad
and Janet..

I hardly think it was about political correctness...

What about Lola in Chile? He was a manwhore or player before he was
turned into a woman and by the end of that series, he was a 1 woman
man and finally woke up and realized that his true love lived next
door to him.

What about Rocky Horror? Political Correctness was a big deal in
the early 90s. Rocky Horror Picture was released in 1975. How can
you even compare the two?

Post #12, Maybe your question isn't directed to me, but it could
be. Granted, Lola in Chile seems to have a lot of fans, and it
certainly must have been popular in Chile, to run more episodes
than any other Lola version I know of. But it (along with Bhaskar
Bharti) are the hardest versions to find, and I have not been able
to see more than a couple shows of LOLA (the first and the last, I
think). Not having the opportunity to observe it more broadly,
there is not much one can say about it how satisfying the ending
is. But I stand by my premise that there are different ways to
develop and end tg stories and each method will find its own fans.
I think that the Lola of Argentina made a needed breakthrough, one
that thankfully (though perhaps only temporarily) has laid to rest
usual tg story ending (death or changing back, such as SWITCH,
which started this thread, and Turnabout.)

I just don't think most people would just give up on going back to
their original body like most of the Lalolas do. Let's not forget
that there is a big buildup usually for the Lola character to meet
the woman that is now in his male body. Aftery they meet, Lola
usually sees how horny and shallow the woman in his male body and
decides that he doesn't want his sperm, penis, and balls back.
That's not realistic to me. I'm not saying that the show sucks or
the idea is stupid but I just don't see it as being realistic.
Sure, a lot of guys would probably like to be women either
permanently or temporarily but some of those guys would want to be
able to go back to being in their male bodies.

Guest #15,
You may be right, or you may be wrong, about most people wouldn't
give up on going back to their original body. But the show isn't
about most people or all people. It's about a particular person,
and every one have every possibility to make different decision. I
agree with Tirem49, the choice most Lolas make is always well
forshadowed and well-justified by the story

The Lalola in Spain basically spoils the ending in the first
episode. In the first scene that you see, you see Lalo as Lola in
Daniela's body walking in a skirt suit and heels in the city and
fending off males trying to flirt with her.
