I think another aspect of why Switch bombed was its mean spirited tone. Lalola was popular because women could relate to the trails Lalo went through but it was light and fun. Lalo may have started off a jerk but he eventually became a better person. It was a romance with a feel good ending.

In Switch, Steve was a jerk. As Amanda she stayed a jerk until she got pregnant. Switch basically says that being a woman is a living hell unless you become a mother. And then Amanda conveniently dies at the end. Every female character in the film was nasty. I recently saw Poltergeist and I forgot that JoBeth Williams could be warm and charming because I always remember her as that bitch from Switch.

I know next to nothing about Sam but the fact with a tagline that reads "An alpha New York City male is magically transformed into a beautiful girl, falls in love with his best buddy, and learns what it means to be a woman" makes me feel like it's more in the spirit of Lalola than Switch.

As for the shooting schedule. That video Saint posted was from 2010. Shooting got delayed so maybe they'll shoot this spring?

Agreed, guest2, Except for the Jimmy Smits's character, Switch had a nasty tone and was filled with jerks, until a few scenes at the end when Amanda softens. But as you mentions by that point she is close to delivering (and dying). And thanks for the Sam update.

I didn't even notice that that video was posted september of 2010! For all we know she could have been referring to the fall of 2010! Like I say, I won't believe it until I see an actual trailer.

There's a good chance it's shooting this year, or at least this actor seems to think so.

This is confusing me. I found an article posted last March which suggests the filming was already done early last year.

"Chris Klein recently completed work on the forthcoming comedy movie 'Sam', which follows the story of an alpha New York City male who is magically transformed into a beautiful girl and falls in love with his best friend."

Found some other information which suggests the Samantha character was originally supposed to be played by Kelli Barrett. That's too bad cause a brunnette would fit just fine with me hehe.

I like brunnettes too. : )

You know it's possible it's already been filmed and they're looking for distribution, but that blog really makes me think otherwise. I wish there was more info.

So if he falls in love with his best friends once he is in a female body, does that change your opinion of the movie? Do you like that idea that the guy's sexual orientation will change or would you prefer him to still like women? I prefer for the guy to stick with his original sexual orientation because if he switches it then it he kind of loses a part of who he is.
In the Lalolas, the main character is still a man inside the female body but I think it gets lost as the shows usually progess. The man inside the female body eventually becomes a woman on the inside. I'm not a fan of that.

To me, this is exactly what the tg genre ought to be about. If it's a guy's brain in a girl's body indefinitely and forever then the story reaches a dead end quickly and is boring. That's why I consider Switch to be one of the biggest disappointments ever. However, when the character develops and adapts to the situation it gets more interesting. I don't view it as a totally different character and the "guy" is lost. All the memories are still intact. But what's changed is their brain is being bombarded with a whole new set of hormones and society has a whole new set of demands and expectations for them. I like it when they fight it but eventually give in like I would kind of expect anyone in that situation to do. In a sense, the person doesn't change but the context of their lives changes.

I will be crushed if this movie doesn't make it. It sounds different to the other tg movies which are a dime a dozen. But then again these movies typically don't get much traction with general public and consequently don't attract the most talented people. Sarah Scott is a very small-time actress but from what I've seen I'm encouraged. I really hope this pulls through even though it's more than a year away.

I'm not talking about brains. I'm talking souls or essence. This is one thing that I don't like about most Lalolas. The guy eventually loses all of his malehood and becomes a complete woman. He use to have a male body. He gets put in a female body and eventually wants to give up his original male body. That's weird.
And another thing why does he care if someone sees up his skirt or dress or naked in his female body? That is not his original body. Being a woman might be cool or hot for like a day but I think most guys that fantasize about it would only want it to be a day and not like a year or forever. You would be giving up more than you would be gaining.

"why does he care if someone sees up his skirt or dress or naked in his female body? That is not his original body. "

Not his original body no. But his body is the body he has now, not in the past

The human mind can be very adaptable and adjust quickly.

If you suddenly had boobs and no shirt on in the middle of a beach, and people were staring at your chest, little kids laughing and pointing, etc, you would cover them up, not say you are a guy and don't need a shirt. Maybe you didn't before, but you sure do now! (or at least a bikini top!)

This is a tricky argument because it's dealing with the duel nature of gender and sexual orientation. You don't just change who you are and yet I prefer TG Films where the MtF adapts. I don't know if sexuality/gender is in the brain or the soul but a good story involves the protagonist overcoming adversity, growing and changing. If there is no growth in the character, especially a natural development and not an unearned change, then you have a pretty dull story. However, in the real world there are people trapped in the wrong bodies or forced to be straight and it is a living hell for them. In reality, changing would be denying who they are. Also, most TG stories deal with magic! So I guess it boils down to personal preference. I like movies where the transformed man adapts. It goes back to the "happy ending" that was missing from Switch. "I Hate My Body" is nothing but the main character rejecting his new body and it's a real downer. Give me a happy ending.

Lola Chile had Lalo fight the change and there was still a happy ending. The two scenarios are not mutually exclusive.

I agree "I hate my body" was disappointing.

Someday I would like to see a movie where an old man or an old woman (say 70's plus) intentionally forces a body swap with an attractive young woman (early 20's) and steals her life.
Maybe they are friends or even related somehow. also perhaps the victim is somehow tricked into restraints and then the swap forced upon them.

would be awesome in conjunction with some explicit visualization on video.
I'm not into male to male, but I just found and submitted this electronic brain swap.

La Machine (1994)

my taste would have a good amount of post swap showing the new young woman taking pleasure in the refreshed vitality.

A quote from one of the links:

"SAM rehearsal with director John A. Gallagher, writer Nick Brooks and actress Katie Morrison."

I can't see where Katie Morrison has a role in the movie based on the Imdb casting information. This makes me wonder if this casting information is old and has yet to be updated with changes. I wonder if Sarah Scott is still the Samantha character.

Why not make Lalola into a movie? Would it be better as an American movie or a foreign movie in Spanish?

In that Sam movie, does the guy just transform into a woman or does he trade bodies with another woman on planet Earth?

From: guest (guest2) , 148 months, post #39
Sam seems like a Lalola film. I've never seen a TG film where the transformee falls in love, let alone with their old friend. Remember, Lola wasn't friends with Facundo when she was male. Same with Leo in Cleo/Leo.

That is such a great idea to explore because it's an interesting premise (that's been done on fictionmania but not film): Would romance bloom between friends if physical attraction became a factor?

BTW, The youtube video with Sara Scott [in the thread above describes it as the character Sam waking up as a woman.

From: guest (guest2) , 148 months, post #40
Oh wait, False Lady was a movie that explored this premise. Oh well, I've never seen it done in English.
