For anyone who's followed the topic on other posts on this board,
this is no big news. But for anyone who hasn't: The relatively new
cartoon SheZow is about a 12-year-old boy who puts on a ring and
becomes the super-hero SheZow, who has incredible super powers...
and is female. The show has caused quite a stir in come circles
because of its gender bending theme. The creators (or maybe the
distributors) of the show are claiming that the magic ring only
makes the boy only appear
to be female and he still retains his masculinity. It is the
consensus of this board's members who have seen the show that there
is a real MtF transformation going on here.
I am including a web address of one of the sites that is critical
of the show and questions whether or not it is appropriate for
children. The site features an image that seems to be going around
the web, especially on sites that want to see the show discontinued
from airing. My questions are: Is this image a real image from an
episode of SheZow or a promotional site for the show? If so, what
episode is it from? And if not, does anyone know where in fact it
did come from?
WARNING! At least to my sensitivities, this image REALLY
pushes the envelope when it comes to acceptability and good taste.
I am putting it here as text rather than a link; you can cut and
paste this to your browser, but be forewarned, this is not an image
I'd put on my grandkid's next birthday card, even if they told me
they were big SheZow fans!

Nope. That's fanart. Quite easy to tell, if you see REAL footage of
the show.
Regardless of its argument, I think it's a poorly made cartoon. A
pity nowadays when there are a lot of great cartoon shows.

As discussed in the comment thread
attached to the database entry. Guy DOES NOT
turn into a woman when he activates his Shezow powers.
And who the heck is Tom O'halloran? This image
from his site (see if you can spot the one who isn't dead yet) is
much more alarming than fan-art of Shezow's package ruining the
line of his bikini bottom.

What bothers me a little - and amuses me a little, too - is that,
if it's not a real part of the program, then the image is there for
no other reason than the pure shock value of it.
I mean... To anyone who really understands the premise of the show,
can you imagine how traumatic it would be to poor Guy if he put on
a bikini and it fit him "just right"?

That bothers me too. If you're going to report facts, use facts...
and don't try to distort the truth. From the write-up, this
O'Halloran doesn't seem to care to examine the material he's
blasting before aiming his words.

The religious right want to have a reason to despise it, and since
it's really not that controversial (Bugs Bunny has been dressing in
drag for how many decades now and yet those cartoons are A-okay?)
they invent facts and images that don't exist to make it seem worse
than it is.
The dumb part is that it's not that great of a series and it
probably would just die off and disappear, but their constant
moronic attempts to mention it is just going to draw more attention
and interest to it, it's the epitome of the Streisand effect.

I guess Mr. O'Halloran should be thankful he is nothing but a hack
writer with his own Internet site rather than a real news reporter.
Not that many years ago, a model of automobile was accused of a
structural defect: when it was struck in the rear, the car
exploded. (Sure, it happens all the time in the movies, but this
was real life we're talking about.) A network news investigation
showed a test of the car being struck in the back by another car,
and not even at all that high of a speed, and sure enough, it
exploded on camera...
...only problem was, if you watched the footage carefully, the
explosion started a fraction of a second before
the cars made contact. The auto company accused the reporters of
deliberately faking the explosion (which it turned out they did),
and the network wound up paying the car company a big settlement
and issuing a public apology.
O'Halloran's little piece of sensationalism proves nothing, Good
grief, you could make the cartoon "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"
look sicko if someone drew phony images and passed them off as real
stills from the movie. But I guess the guy is too low-key and
obscure to have to worry about getting sued.

Don't forget the rest of the story, though. The "expose" was enough
to do some serious damage to the reputation of the car itself (but
not so much the company) that it was eventually removed from the
market. Same thing happened with the "Food Lion" expose (which
caused massive financial damage to the grocery chain).
All it takes is one spark to light a fire.
However, this article was from May of last year *and* Shezow was
not renewed for another season. So why post this now?

Noah Body:
I will confess I never watched the show when it was on, and only
read about it here on this board. The reason I asked the question
in the first place was because I stumbled across the questionable
image on a totally unrelated board - a religious-themed Pinterest
board with a title like "These are the last days" - and wanted to
know if this was really from the show.
Serves me right for not checking it out any better...

'To criticize a person for their race is manifestly irrational and
ridiculous, but to criticize their religion, that is a right. That
is a freedom. The freedom to criticize ideas, any ideas even if
they are sincerely held beliefs is one of the fundamental
freedoms of society'

Religions have no rights, I have to agree with Rowan Atkinson, I
try to avoid anything written by people with such narrow minds, the
image should not be included in the article, but it doesn't matter
as the article isn't worth reading anyway... I'm glad that there
are kid shows breaking down the gender barriers
