Perhaps the exchange between Lily and Alan is a perfect (or imperfect, depending on your perception) illustration of perception and circumstances and a myriad of so many other things that makes each of our journeys through life individually unique.

Who of us is to say that either lily or Alan is correct or incorrect... Even the cases each one listed are based on such a small sampling of the human diversity -- I'd be hard-pressed to rely on them as all-encompassing fact.

I'm glad that you both have decided to move on. I really enjoy reading the views and thoughts that each of you have. They help to open my mind and expand my understanding of other people.

I'm very interested to hear your thoughts and experiences, Alan. I know that they can only take us so far in our desire to experience, however complete and accurate they may or may not be to those of an actual woman.

I'm also curious, now, on any differences between women who were born into a female body and those who were born into a male body. I would think that their different backgrounds would result in somewhat different views and experiences in adult life - but who am I to know.

Perhaps, Alan, you could share your thoughts and experiences alone - without any references other than you own. Being your individual experiences, the only challenges would be to them not being as wide-spread... or to not be exactly what/how you perceived them to be. These could certainly be valid claims, and the "challenge" would only serve to expand our knowledge and understanding of that which we seek.

I feel that we (the TG patrons of Metamorphose) are very lucky as we have many members and visitors who have experienced different aspects of our own fantasy / desires, or have undergone transition, or otherwise have (and share) knowledge that would be difficult to impossible for our friends (Animal, Inanimate, Mythical, Mechanical, etc) to find comparable reference sources. So we should continue to embrace that great wealth of information and experience by continuing to share our thoughts and experiences. By this we should be able to get a decent grasp on each edge, and a majority indicating the average experience. It may not be 100% accurate or scientific... but it MIGHT be good enough.

i don't think its a right/wrong thing. i think it is about generations.

i looked at the memoir he posted (i hope i am not misgendering allen). the person in those pictures is middle-aged.

i get that allen doesn't want to talk about the books anymore, but they both came out more than 20 years ago.

i feel like lily is younger than allen and maybe she doesn't think "that there is a fundamental difference in the way women talk to women and men talk to men" because the way younger men talk to men is more like the way younger women talk to women?

i also think allen uses "always" and "never" too much. he might know something about how some women and some men talk sometimes. i don't think he can know about all women and men all of the time.

the thing about talking at the bathroom sinks is strange. i srsly don't want to come off like i am "attacking another poster" and i really really don't want to hurt allan's feelings, but if i saw him in the women's toilets looking like those selfies, i'd probably try to get him to talk to see if he sounded like a man.

I hadn't thought about that, trsk... the age difference / generational differences.

Perhaps there is a also difference between the way the younger and older generations of people interact within their same peer-group, whether it is male to male, female to female, male & female, or mixed company.

And I know that there is a difference in the way that the younger generation interacts with my own generation (or at least, just me). Their conversations seem to be crafted as if I'm an outsider to their world.

My conversations with the younger folk are only adjusted for the sake of filtering out the societal conventions of "inappropriate to younger audiences", and the additional relations to illustrate or educate based on experience. Things I don't necessarily do for those of my same-aged peer group.

My exchanges with the older generation seem to be no different, on my part, than with my own group... but I'm not sure if there is any difference in how the connect with me vs their own generation.

So, if I suddenly wake up as a young teen girl... I'll probably be lost in a world that will quickly isolate and/or "eat me alive"... I hear those girls can be mean. Still, if I had the chance to "start over" from there... I just might do it. Too great of a learning opportunity to pass up.
