Description

Wotan, Dr. Fate's old foe, started out life as a cave woman in approximately the fiftieth millennium B.C. who was exiled from her tribe and who received instruction in black magic from a witch. She later went on to change bodies and to be reborn many times over. He (she?) has recently reformed and is now taking instruction from a servant of God himself!

First Appearance: More Fun Comics #55 (May 1940)

History:

Taking his (or her, because Wotan has been both male and female) name from the Norse god, Wotan is a millennia-old sorcerer who has battled Nabu/Doctor Fate in several eras. He has also encountered the Spectre, the Shining Knight, Zatanna, the JSA, and the JLA, Wotan's main goal was to conquer the world, utilising both sorcery and advanced technology to achieve it. Following a clash with Doctor Fate III (Linda Strauss), Wotan saw the light of God and reformed. He currently lives in a monastery.
