CBS Show Ghosts (Possession)

Thursday nights on CBS has a show called Ghosts, which is the US version of the United Kingdom (on the BBC) show of the same name and premise.

The US version has husband and wife Jeff and Samantha inheriting the Woodcrest Mansion from Samantha's recently deceased relative. Jeff and Samantha throw caution to the wind and decide to move into the mansion, as well as hire contractors to turn the place into a Bed and Breakfast.

Inside the mansion and its grounds are ghosts of deceased people who have died in or around the mansions' grounds. Hetty Woodcrest, the original owner of the estate and her late husband Elias, haunt the mansion with a plethora of ghosts. Samantha fell in the 2nd episode and was in a coma for 2 days. Upon awakening in the hospital, she meets her ancestor Hetty and other ghosts like Pete (the scoutmaster with an arrow in his neck), Isaac (Revolutionary War soldier who died in 1777 from dysentery), Flower (1960's hippie/cult member who was mauled by a bear), Trevor (died in 2000 after consuming drugs and alcohol after a hazing incident gone wrong), Alberta Hayes, a black 1920's Jazz singer who died from drinking illegal/poisoned moonshine, Thorfin the Viking, and Sassipis, a member of the Lenape Indian tribe. There are other ghosts like Nigel, a British officer Isaac killed and his two fellow British officers, the cholera pit victims in the basement, and the teenage bad girl who was murdered by a chainsaw maniac on her prom night in 1987. Stephanie is found sleeping in the attic and only comes out annually.

There are other ghosts in the town and Samantha has met them as well as made peace with her deceased mother who died in a local restaurant of severe shellfish allergies. At the restaurant, Sam is introduced to Peggy Sue, the 1950's waitress who died getting impaled on one of the fins of a classic car, and one of her mother's friends, who died of a heart attack after eating one of the large appetizers offered. There's an old doctor who used to be Samantha's family doctor, Sassapi's love interest in his tribe, and a twelve-year-old newsboy who was trampled to death by a horse.

In the episode Possession, Jeff tries to do some repairs in the mansion and falls into the ghost of Hetty, the female ghost. Hetty attempts to flee in Jeff's body and car but is pulled out of Jeff as she cannot leave the Mansion's grounds.

Hetty's husband, Elias was a Robber Baron from the early 1880's and died in the family vault after being accidently locked in by one of his servants. His ghost causes the living to act temporarily horny when they pass through him, or he chooses to be a jerk and pass through them. Hetty stands up to him and banishes him to Hell.

Samantha is a ghost whisperer and acts as a medium to the other ghosts who help the new owners despite their respective time periods and other interpersonal issues. Isaac and Pete are often the voices of reason among the group. Flower acts as the counselor when they need to consult her about any conflicts that arise.
