==Description==
Sidonia is one of several spaceships that have left Earth centuries ago to escape monstrous aliens called Gauna. Medical advances have made it possible to compensate for the loss of population in previous wars. Humans now photosynthesize for reduced dependency on food, regrowing of body parts in the lab is a common procedure and there is an officially recognized third gender which adapts to the chosen partner.
<spoiler>Izana, who is known to be intersexed since the first episode, becomes affected to Nagate and starts to develop female features. This leads to her space suit rejecting her body in season 2, episode 7.
There is also a small group of leaders who extend their lives by transplanting their brains into clones.</spoiler>
